Abstract

Political communication process aims to produce informed citizen for development of the democratic process. This research has studied the practice of political communication in respect to the Baluchistan region in the first year (August 1947 – July 1948) of newly independent and democratic state of Pakistan. The study in the theoretical framework of agenda setting model has analyzed the editorializing trends in the Pakistan mainstream and national newspaper of Dawn, in respect to the Baluchistan issues. Baluchistan is a very important region of Pakistan, economically, socially and strategically. Its history is very eventful. After independence newly democratic state of Pakistan had faced challenges of princely states’ accession and interventions of anti-state elements. In these circumstances of security challenges how one of the leading national newspapers practices political communication is analyzed in this study.  The study verifies the implications of agenda setting model in editorializing practice, on the basis of preference and selection. The study results areas significant for the researchers of political communication and Baluchistan region fields.
